How to make healthier versions of your favorite deserts

If you’re like me, and you have a HUGE sweet tooth, avoiding delicious treats can be hard.

Regular indulgences (even just a couple a week) can lead to weight gain, inflammation, and bloating.

Fortunately, there are ways to make HEALTHY deserts, so you can still indulge your sweet tooth without the guilt!

You can really turn any desert into a healthy snack, with the right ingredients. I am always making protein cookies, ice cream, granola bars, brownies, etc.

Try these substitutes when baking:

Instead of:

- All purpose flour >>>>>> Whole Wheat Flour, coconut flour

- Margarine >>>>>>>>>>Coconut Oil

- Sugar >>>>>>>>>>>>>Coconut/date cugar, stevia

- Whole Eggs >>>>>>>>>Egg whites

- Whole Milk >>>> >>>>>1% milk, almond/coconut milk

- Corn Syrup >>>>>> >>>raw honey

- Butter/oil >>>> >>>>>>applesauce, mashed banana

Sometimes just sneaking in some super foods can make a recipe healthier. Most baked goods can handle the addition of flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, for a protein and fiber boost.

Chopped almonds/walnuts/pecans add a nice texture to cookies, muffins or brownies, and boost fiber, healthy fat and protein content.

Cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg blend easily and add flavor and antioxidants.

Are you a chocolate lover? The darker, the better. Choose at least 70% raw, unprocessed cacao powder can be added to a brownie or mouse recipe. This adds antioxidants that lower inflammation and boost immunity.
